EDUCATION
EARLY CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT
Midwest City has abundant facilities for early childhood education. There is child care for every
pre-school age group. The availability of these facilities runs the gamut from private Montessori
schools to public day care. Church schools and private, in-home, licensed care are also readily
available.
Early childhood development and care giving is taught as a profession at the Mid-Del Vo-Tech
and Rose State College; many of the graduates are hired in the community.
PUBLIC EDUCATION
Elementary/Secondary
The Mid-Del School System, one of the finest in the State, offers premier educational
opportunities for our students. Mid-Del Schools has maintained a record of excellence in
academic programs as well as in athletics and fine arts. Beyond the regular curriculum, special
programs are available which include gifted education, before and after school care, special
education, remedial reading, bilingual instruction, computer education, guidance services,
vocation-technical training, alternative education, drug prevention, homebound instruction and
summer remedial and enrichment classes.
Midwest City is a community which believes that its quality of life is directly related to the quality
of its school system. Private citizens have formed the Midwest City-Del City Public Schools
Foundation which promotes excellence by awarding grants to classroom teachers and school
sites for selected innovative, challenging projects.
For those students who prefer a vocational-technical education, Mid-Del has its own vo-tech
school. Students enrolled in vo-tech receive excellent high-tech, pre-employment training.
The 1990 census indicates that 82% of our adult population are high school graduates or
higher and 17% have a bachelor's degree or higher.
