ROSE STATE COLLEGE
Rose State College (RSC) offered its first classes on September 21, 1970. The College has
grown from an initial enrollment of 1,700 to a regular fall enrollment exceeding 9,000. The
campus now includes 19 buildings on 100 acres. At Rose State College, 470 faculty (full-time
and adjunct), 94 administrative and professional staff; and 163 classified staff are committed to
student academic success.
Rose State College is accredited as a degree-granting institution by the following professional
groups: American Bar Association, American Medical Association, National League for Nursing,
North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, Oklahoma Board of Nursing, Oklahoma
State Regents for Higher Education; and the State Accrediting Agency. In addition, the
programs in Dental Assisting and Dental Hygiene are accredited by the Commission on Dental
Accreditation, recognized by the Council on Postsecondary Accreditation and the United States
Department of Education.
FACTS ABOUT
Student Academic Success:
> Eleven percent or 2,957 of the 27,211 students graduating from Oklahoma colleges in Spring,
1994, had at some time enrolled in courses at Rose State College. Seven hundred fifty of the
2,957 were student graduates at RSC. Some students graduated with one or two degrees and/or
a certificate.
> Students who transfer from RSC tend to earn a higher than average grade point at four-year
colleges and universities in Oklahoma.
> Students who transfer with 30 or more credit hours from RSC have a grade point average
(GPA) that is noticeably higher than the average of those transferring with one to 29 credit hours.
Student Employment Success:
> For 1993 student graduates, the average starting monthly salary range was from $1,500 to
$2,000.
> The top three employment areas of RSC student graduates are in medicine, government, and
small business.
> Ninety percent of the employers responding to surveys have said RSC graduates have the
needed skills and knowledge for their jobs.
Student Reason for Attendance:
> RSC offers needed courses, has a low cost of attendance, and is in a convenient location.
> Class enrollment averages 20-25 students per classroom, and students are taught by
professors who know their subjects and are interested in their studentsí academic success.
Characteristics of Students:
> About 22 percent or 2,000 students will be new to the campus in spring and fall.
> The average age is 28; student ages range from 18 to over 55.
> The makeup of the student population is about 70 percent part-time and 30 percent full-time.
FACTS ABOUT FACULTY:
> Most students are taught by full-time professors whose primary job is teaching.
> RSC employs 147 highly qualified, full-time faculty in its commitment to quality instruction for
students. Twenty-five percent have earned a doctorate; and 65 percent have their master's
degree.
> Faculty encourage students to take responsibility for their own learning. They want students
to be prepared to handle professional and personal challenges.
> Faculty are available during office hours and often at other times to assist students.
LEARNING RESOURCES CENTER AND LIBRARY: (LRC)
> A collection of over 90,000 print and non-print items and audiovisual services are provided by
the LRC.
> A computer lab, with 20 486/66 MHtz computers, is available for student and faculty use.
> An automated catalog provides access to the LRC materials. The catalog may be searched
from library terminals or from personal computers in the home or office.
> Services are provided by a staff of 40; a professional librarian is always on duty to assist
in the reference area. Except for holidays, the LRC is open 80 hours a week. Summer hours are
slightly reduced .
STUDENT SERVICES AND CLUBS:
> Academic assessment, career planning, study skills, transfer information, free tutoring,
Veteran's Administration Office, services for the disabled, student health services, and the
Student Financial Aid Office are services located in the Student Services building.
> Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society for two-year colleges, invites full-time and
part-time, academically eligible students to join.
> Student Senate, the campus student self-government organization, is composed of duly
elected representatives and meets weekly. The meetings are open to all students.
> A few of the clubs and organizations for student participation include intramural and
intercollegiate athletics, Future Criminal Justice Club, Black Student Association, Broadcasting
Club, Drama Club, Oklahoma Intercollegiate Legislature and Oklahoma Student Government.
SPECIAL POPULATION OUTREACH PROGRAMS:

> High School Concurrent Enrollment
> University Transfer Center
TECHNOLOGY:
> Computer technology to assist appropriately enrolled students is available in two
math/science labs, five business computer classrooms, a business lab, reading lab, journalism
lab, social science computer lab, LRC computer lab, a CAD lab, and two continuing education
labs.
> Other technology accessible to appropriately enrolled students includes two aviation flight
simulators, 12 full dental chairs, four dental radiograph units, two industrial robots, and a
broadcasting lab with three editing booths, two audio booths and a video toaster.
> The RSC campus is presently connected to the Internet, and student access was made
available through the LRC in the Spring 1996 Semester.
AWARDS:
> In 1995, RSC Academic All-Stars won first place among two-year colleges from four
states--Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, and Missouri--and placed eighth overall among 20
colleges.
> For two years straight, RSC has won awards at the Model U.N. held at the University of
Oklahoma in February.
> The 1994 RSC menís basketball team won the Bi-State West Conference.
> The student newspaper, ě15th Street News,î has won top honors in national, regional, and
local competitions for excellence in journalism.
> The Veterans Affairs Office at RSC received its second award for service to veterans.
ROSE STATE COLLEGE ACADEMIC YEAR
Rose State College operates on a semester system with the fall semester beginning in August
and the spring semester in January. There are regular sixteen-week sessions and accelerated
eight-week programs offered each spring and fall semester.
The College welcomes students working toward an Associate in Arts or an Associate in Science
degree for purposes of transfer to another college or university, or an Associate in Applied
Science to seek employment, or taking courses for job improvement and/or personal enrichment.

OTHER HIGHER EDUCATION OPPORTUNITIES

UNIVERSITIES
Additional opportunities for higher education in four-year universities are available within 25
minutes of Midwest City in all four directions.
The University of Oklahoma is 25 minutes south. This nationally recognized school has
10 colleges on the main campus and a major medical research and training center in the metro
area.
The University of Central Oklahoma is twenty-five minutes north. UCO, long recognized for its
excellence in producing fine teachers, is a well-rounded facility which appeals to the student who
wishes to attend a smaller university.
Oklahoma City University is 25 minutes west. OCU is a beautiful private school,
supported by the Methodist Church. It is recognized throughout the United States for its
excellence in its School of Performing Arts and School of Law.
Oklahoma Baptist University is 25 minutes east. This school is well known for its
academic excellence, as well as its theological training. It has been named one of the top liberal
arts schools in the United States.
Also within easy driving distance of Midwest City are several other well known colleges and
universities: Oklahoma State University; Southern Nazarene University; Oklahoma Christian
College; Oklahoma City Community College and St. Gregory's College.
