Location Transportation & Industry

Midwest City is ideally located in the center of Oklahoma. Situated in Oklahoma County just seven miles east of the business district of metropolitan Oklahoma City. Midwest City is the service community for 250 square miles, 10 communities and 200,000 people. We are served by three major roads, Interstates 40, 35 and 44, also two U.S. Highways, 62 and 270 and State Highway 3; making this an ideal area for interstate or intra-state commerce.

Our climate is moderate with an average annual temperature of 60 degrees and 39 inches of rainfall. We have four definite seasons with 220 growing days and 362 flying days. Our elevation is 1,207 feet above sea level and the countryside is gently rolling hills, moderate slopes and beautifully wooded areas.

SAFETY

Emergency Services are provided through the enhanced 911 system, dispatching Police, Fire and Ambulance for public safety and welfare.

The Police Department houses 98 full-time professional peace officers. Through several innovative programs and working with juvenile justice they have had a positive impact on students and neighborhoods in this community. The department has a community outreach center in Heritage Park Mall, which allows citizens to become acquainted with officers in a casual, friendly atmosphere.

Eighty-eight full-time, professional firefighters and 17 units of rolling equipment make up an award winning Fire Department. Because of our well-planned and successful program, Midwest City has a fire insurance rating of two (2), the only city in the State of Oklahoma to achieve this rating for the entire community.

MIDWEST CITY, OKLAHOMA was recently declared one of the 13 safest communities in the nation by the Insurance Service Office (ISO). The ISO, a national organization responsible for establishing insurance rates for various communities based on many factors such as fire prevention and protection, water availability and so forth, elevated Midwest City to a #2 rating, shared by only 13 communities in the United States.

===================================================================== INDUSTRIAL PARKS =====================================================================

MIDWEST CITY INDUSTRIAL PARK (MCIP)

Twenty-five years ago, Midwest City recognized the need to provide a place where manufacturers could develop plants which would provide quality jobs for the surrounding area. The Midwest City Industrial Authority was formed; land was purchased and Chromalloy-Division Oklahoma was brought in as the first tenant.

Since that time, numerous companies have shared this park, including: Chromalloy, an industrial repair facility primarily contracting locally with Tinker Air Force Base; SMC, making biodegradable industrial cleaners; G-M Sheet Metal & Matherly Mechanical, a commercial heating and air conditioning contractor; Breeden Paint, a commercial paint contractor; Century, Inc., a manufacturer of sporting goods; Sutherland Lumber, a wholesale/retail lumberyard and home improvement center; plus a number of other smaller industrial operations.

Today, the companies in MCIP employ over 1,000 people. The park is certified by both the State of Oklahoma and OG+E which qualifies businesses in the park for incentive programs.

TINKER BUSINESS AND INDUSTRIAL PARK (TBIP)

This light industry and office park is designed in a campus-like setting. The entire park is beautifully landscaped, creating a professional business atmosphere.

TBIP is strategically located to take advantage of Interstates 40 & 240, and Tinker Air Force Base. It is easily accessible from any part of the metro area.

When complete, the park will offer the latest technology in satellite communications and fiber optics. The first two buildings are finished and occupied. Future buildings will include a mid-rise office building, high caliber service center and a warehouse-distribution operation. A total of 15 buildings on 62 acres will offer the highest quality in office space. This park is also certified by the State and OG+E.

Some of the current TBIP tenants are: Boeing; Rockwell, Abacus; Northrup-Grumman; Frontier Engineering; Mission Research Corp.; SAIC; OFCOM Telecommunications; and the on-site leasing company.

TINKER AIR FORCE BASE

Since its beginning, Tinker has been an important asset to Oklahoma and the nation. In 1941, forward thinking community leaders purchased 1,460 acres of land for an air depot and offered it to the War Department.

Today, Tinker sits on 5,000 acres and is one of the major military/industrial installations in the world. The state's largest, single-site employer, Tinker makes an economic impact on the immediate surrounding area (50-mile radius) of $2.2 billion, and employs 19,000 military and civilian personnel.

The largest organization on the base is the Air Logistics Center, the worldwide management activity for a wide range of aircraft, engines, missiles and commodity items. Tinker is also home to the 552nd Airborne Control Wing, the Navy Strategic Communications Wing ONE, the 507th Air Refueling Wing, the 3rd Combat Communications Group, the 38th Engineering Installation Wing, the Defense Logistics Agency and several other Department of Defense agencies.
