"The Special Place," appropriately describes Midwest City. Founded by W. P. "Bill" Atkinson in 1942, Midwest City is centrally located along I-40 next to Tinker Air Force Base. It is the economic trade center of Eastern Oklahoma County, where citizens enjoy a high standard of living and abundant leisure opportunities.
Many local and regional organizations find Midwest City to be an ideal site for special events. Residents and visitors enjoy outstanding parks and recreational facilities ranging from golf and bowling to swimming and racquetball. Local school districts join forces with Rose State College to sponsor entertaining and educational activities and host competitive athletic events.
Families enjoy the exciting Star Spangled Salute Fourth of July Celebration, shop for trinkets and sample ethnic cuisine at Rose State College's annual Global Oklahoma festival and celebrate the Christmas spirit at Holiday Lights Spectacular.
